Three SodaStream machines separated by borders

SodaStream Fizzi Vs. One Touch Vs. Aqua Fizz: Which Is Better?

Three SodaStream machines separated by borders

Since the inception of SodaStream in 1903, it has created over ten soda machine variations. Some are straightforward, while others are more high-tech.

If you desire to purchase a SodaStream soda maker, which one will you choose? Will you start small or go big immediately? This article will compare three of SodaStream’s most well-known models to see which one is the best for you.

SodaStream Fizzi

Pros
Cons
  • Doesn’t need electricity nor batteries
  • Compact and slim design
  • Available in different colors
  • Affordable price
  • Plastic exterior
  • Easy to over-carbonate and create a mess

This sparkling water maker is the most basic model of all SodaStream machines but as reliable as the rest. With a few steps, you can instantly make sparkling water by pushing the carbonating button a few times.

The SodaStream Fizzi is also perhaps the most affordable one, making it a great starting point for new soda makers. It has a simple but professional look to make it a great addition to the kitchen, and it doesn’t take too much space.

SodaStream Fizzi One Touch

Pros
Cons
  • Selectable carbonation level
  • Snap and lock feature
  • LED light indicators
  • Doesn’t create too much mess
  • Needs electricity to work
  • The power cord is thin and can easily be bent or cut

As the name suggests, this model is like the SodaStream Fizzi but with an automated system. Instead of pushing a single button, the SodaStream Fizzi One Touch features three buttons of different carbonation levels.

LED lights indicate if the soda maker is on and which level is selected. This SodaStream model is great for people who don’t like to estimate their carbonation but rather have consistency for every use.

SodaStream Aqua Fizz

Pros
Cons
  • Sophisticated opening mechanism
  • Secure bottle placement
  • Makes use of glass bottles
  • Superior carbonation
  • You can’t see the bubbles being infused in the water as the bottle is placed inside the machine
  • Bulky

SodaStream Aqua Fizz looks very different from the other two models. It has a more futuristic design and is relatively more comfortable to use. Its main difference is that it uses glass carafes instead of the 1-liter plastic SodaStream bottles. Like the Fizzi, it allows manual carbonation, so you can still customize the level of carbonation you want.

Sodastream Fizzi vs. One Touch vs. Aqua Fizz

Fizzi, One Touch, and Aqua Fizz cost $89.99, $129.99, and $159.99, respectively. Each model comes with one carbon dioxide cartridge that can make up to 60 liters of sparkling water. The Fizzi and One Touch include one plastic bottle, while Aqua Fizz comes with two glass carafes.

If we set all the advanced and fancier features aside, the three SodaStream machines yield the same result. Just looking at the price, most people would go for the most affordable one, which is the under $100 SodaStream Fizzi. It is more accessible and is already equipped with everything you need to make delicious sparkling water or seltzer at home.

Since SodaStream One Touch is modeled after SodaStream Fizzi, both are assembled the same way. You take the back panel off, install the cartridge, fill the bottle with water and insert it directly into the nozzle. It’s effortless.

On the other hand, SodaStream Aqua Fizz has a much more exciting assembly. The bottle is placed inside the machine, like a chamber. It is opened by pulling a lever, and the upper part lifts while the bottle holder pulls down. This operation seems smarter and cooler because it feels like the machine is inviting you to use it.

Both Fizzi and Aqua Fizz feature manual pumping of carbon dioxide. There are standard frequencies of pushing the button with corresponding seconds. You usually push for 2 seconds, then let go, and this is repeated up to seven times.

However, be careful because there is a control limit. It is easy to over-carbonate a drink and risk overflowing the water and damage the machine. One Touch eliminates this problem with its preset buttons. You can choose between a low, standard, and strong fizz level with the right consistency of effervescence every time.

SodaStream has four main types of carbonating bottles: the standard 1-liter, the slim 1-liter, the 0.5-liter, and the 21-oz. glass carafe. Both Fizzi and One Touch are compatible with all bottles except the glass carafes. On the other hand, Aqua Fizz was designed to only work with glass carafes. Bottle compatibility is one thing, and environmental impact is another.

The advantage of using more than one bottle type is that you have alternatives should the original bottle type is not available. The three aforementioned plastic bottles will still be disposed of someday, but glass bottles can be used indefinitely. With this, it helps the earth more by using less plastic. The sparkling water also tastes better with glass containers.

No matter what type of SodaStream model you get, the soda maker must not be cleaned in the dishwasher. They are only wiped down with a clean, damp towel and finished off with a dry one. The bottle is where the difference lies.

Even with the metal lining, plastic bottles should not be placed in the dishwasher because they will warp due to the intense heat. However, glass carafes won’t be experiencing this problem because they are dishwasher-safe, so cleaning up is very convenient.

SodaStream Fizzi Dimensions

Sometimes, storing appliances can be a bit of a hassle because they may be bulky and heavy. To save time for keeping them, you can place them in a permanent location on your counter. Both the Fizzi and One Touch measure about 17 inches in height, so it’s not very difficult to find a storage area for them.

Meanwhile, Aqua Fizz measures 17.2 inches when closed and 21.6 inches when opened. It is also relatively heavy since part of its material is metal, and the bottle is glass. If it is to be placed in a permanent area, it would have to be spacious to accommodate the opening mechanism. If it is to be stored in a cabinet, it might be a hassle because of its weight.

So it’s down to Fizzi and One Touch. Despite having little to no difference in the dimensions, Fizzi doesn’t have a cord, so there’s no possibility of you tripping over it and no extra work if the cable is damaged. Thus, the easiest to store is the SodaStream Fizzi.
