Vesper is a cocktail made with gin, vodka, and dry vermouth. It was originally created in 1953 by Ian Fleming for James Bond in the novel Casino Royale. While the original recipe calls the cocktail to be shaken, this one is served stirred and straight up so that you can taste all of the flavors separately. Here's how to make your own Vesper martini at home!
Pour the gin, vodka, and Lillet Blanc aperitif into an ice-filled mixing glass. Stir well until thoroughly combined.
Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist. Serve immediately!
Recipe Note
When Bond orders the Vesper, he provides strict instructions to the bartender. The order includes three measures of Gordon’s Gin mixed with one measure vodka and half Kina Lillet that has been shaken until it is ice cold before adding a large thin slice of lemon peel.
