In recent years, mixology has grown exponentially, and people want to see their favorite bartenders push the limits. With the introduction of the craft cocktail, mixologists are now taking their skills to the next level.
For this month’s monthly roundup, we included well-known personalities not only for their passion for making alcoholic concoctions but also for their advocacy in their fields of expertise.

Frankie Cisco Medina @frankie.forreal is a well-known bar owner and mixologist. He owns Five Twelve Bar, a hand-crafted cocktail bar in Cliffside Park, Bergen County, New Jersey. He also has recently become the official mixologist of Duran Entities at Ventanas and Son Cubano.
One of Frankie's missions is to create drinks that would immerse people in the flavors of different cultures in the comfort of their local bar. He also takes his time to give his patrons an experience to enjoy and savor their drinks.
Robert Ferrara @robbiepeso is a cocktail consultant and a whiskey brand ambassador for Pernod Ricard (USA), the world’s No. 1 Premium Spirits Organization in the world. He started his career in 1999 while still a freshman in college. Eventually, he dropped out to pursue bartending, and the rest was history.
Like the other featured bartenders on this list, Ferrara is also a multi-awardee and has been recognized as the “Best Bartender in Miami” by the Miami New Times. He is also an awardee of the “Top 25 Bartenders in America” by the Daily Meal and “America’s Best Bartenders of 2015” by Thrillist.
Ivy Mix @ivymix is a woman with a passion for life. She is the owner of Leyenda, a pan-Latin-inspired cocktail bar that reflects her tribute to her years of living as a bartender in Guatemala and her travels throughout Latin America. She is also a co-founder of Speed Rack, a speed bartending competition for women in the US.
Ivy is known for her Palo Negro cocktail, which is a balanced combination of Palo Cortado sherry, black strap rum, reposado tequila, and Grand Marnier. A piece of additional information that you can get inspiration from Ivy is that she is an acclaimed author of numerous books, including the Spirits of Latin America.
Known to be the owner of Drinksat6, Lynnette Marrero @drinksat6 has so many years of experience mixing delicious cocktails. She began working as a waitress and shifted to being NYC’s Flatiron Lounge bartender together with Julie Reiner—this was when she realized that mixing spirits was something that she loved and wanted to do.
Lynnette is also one of the most influential figures in the beverage industry and has won many awards. A few of her most recent ones are the Tales of the Cocktail Best Bar Mentor, the Drinks International Bar World’s 100 Most Influential Figures, and the Tales of the Cocktail Philanthropy Award Speed Rack—all awarded in 2019.
There is a growing number of women working in the service industry, particularly in the bartending scene—and Julie Reiner @mixtressnyc is one of these boss queens.
She has been in the industry for more than a decade and started her bar in 2003, the Flatiron Lounge, and co-founded another one in 2005 with Audrey Saunders (The Pegu Club). She also co-founded Social Hour Cocktails and is co-owner of Clover Club and Leyenda (with Ivy Mix).
Julie Reiner's original cocktails reflect her roots in Hawaii, where she was raised with an appreciation for the freshest fruits and premier quality spices and spirits. In addition, she is known for making delicious classic cocktails, including The Manhattan, Mai Tai, Hawaiian Iced Tea, Jamaican Firely, and many more.
As an award-winning craft cocktail mixologist, Mimi Burnham @smartolivenyc believes in making alcoholic drinks with excellent service and without pretension.
Mimi has won several awards, such as being crowned the champion of the Lunazul Tequila “Fly Me to the Moon” contest and landing the top spot in the Behind the Barrel national contest.
Catering to critical cocktail connoisseurs in New York City, Mimi not only works as a mixologist for Avital Tours, but she also has served in several places like the North Shore Yacht Club and some fine dining restaurants in Queens.
As a bar manager at Blossom Bar, Jen Laforge @jen.laforge takes pride in making classy and delicious cocktails! This Boston bartender strives to awaken from her bar guests the feeling of nostalgia, pleasure, and satisfaction in their drinking experience.
As an outstanding mixologist, Jen also won the U.S. Finest Roots Cocktail Competition in 2018, where she defeated other contenders—with her concoction, Always Sunny. This drink consists of Roots Diktamo, fresh orange and lime juice, and Coco Lopez.
As the former senior mixologist of Dead Rabbit (the world’s most awarded pub), Samantha Casuga @labonitafunk has come a long way in her career, from hosting shifts at a wine bar to the current Head Bartender of the Temple Bar in New York City. She is also the brand ambassador for Chareau, an aloe liqueur company.
Miranda Breedlove @glassisalwaysgruner is an industry leader in the hospitality world. As National Director for Bars at Hyatt Lifestyle Division, she has worked with many hotels and restaurants to help create their bars, especially their cocktail menus!
She began her bartending career in Wise Fools Pub in Lincoln Park, where she learned to mix drinks in real life. She then bartended for several more bars, and the rest is history.
When it comes to bartending, Carley Noel Hansen @carleygaskin is a true champion. She was recently awarded the Most Imaginative Bartender in 2019 by the United States Bartenders' Guild, presented by Bombay Sapphire. It is a huge accomplishment, and it just goes to show how talented Carley is behind the bar.
Carley is also the owner of Hospitality 201, a cocktail-focused catering, events, and consulting firm. She is committed to sustainability, and her inventive approach to mixology makes her a true bartending community icon.
