Well, it is a chunk of wood. Bought this as a prop for a commercial photography job I did a couple months back. Is gorgeous, looks great on camera. Honestly have Not used it for intended purpose. However, I have owned natural wood chopping boards in the past -- it is wood, you have to take care of it. I cannot believe the very obvious has to be said, Do not put in dishwasher, you must oil the wood, you must treat the thing like a baby and then it will last and treat you right.

I bought this to use with large briskets that I smoke, and it is terrific. Very good quality, cleans up easily. Be prepared though with the size - it is really big - so before buying, think about where you will store it when not in use. This brand does over a slightly smaller option.I specifically wanted this size, and I do have an appliance pantry to store it in, so this works perfectly for me.

Beautifully stained. Very smooth edges. Sturdy but a good weight for everyday use. It is perfect for meal preparation. May want to get larger size or a couple of these if for large quantities. It does need to be given another oiling once you get it, so plan for a day or so lead time prior to first use.Just lovely. Thank y'all!

I temporally stuck the cutting board behind my knife set while I was making space to store it. Seeing it with the knives and knife holder I realized it looked perfect right there. It matches so great with the whole set. Also, the knives, the magnetic holder and the cutting board are all American made, so they belong together!

We were given a much larger, thicker VB cutting board as a gift from our realtor when we sold our house last spring. I'd been wanting a smaller, more of a daily driver board from them, and took a chance on this one in the warehouse. It is gorgeous, can't wait to put it to use!

This cutting board is pricey, but well worth it. The craftsmanship is superb, it's so very well made. Makes a great gift for your favorite BBQ aficionado. It's so beautiful it looks like a piece of art. The best part of all, LOVE that it's MADE IN THE USA!!!

Beautifully crafted. I'd been using a plastic type cutting board while ruining my good knives! Huge difference in cutting. Take care of it and you can pass on for generations! Highly recommend.

I bought this board in 2018 for $60 in the 17x11 config. I've never really pampered it. In fact I've probably broken every rule every company has listed for wooden cutting boad care.I have put it through a dishwasher, multiple times. I have taken HOT pans right off the burner and popped them on to the board. I've only ever oiled it and waxed it twice, once in 2018, and once yesterday. It finally started to split about a week ago. There's a 0.5mm gap at one of the mating surfaces. And from the la…st dishwasher cycle there is a little bowing.Honestly this board has been through hell and back and it still keeps going. Is it perfect? Nope. Does it need to be? Not at all. To me this is a work tool and it does what I need it to, all while being far more durable than advertised.

The finish was rough. For the price I felt it should have had a smoother/finer finish. Several hours after applying oil I wiped off the excess and noticed that I had some brown stain on my cloth. I didn't think walnut wood bled it's color. That concerned me! The oil highly recommended by the maker is very expensive.

I was looking for a smaller board to use for little things like fruit so I had found this one and decided to order. Upon opening the packaging I saw oil stains on the cardboard inside which is a good sign, means it really is/was preseasoned. It's a nice chocolate brown color. The wood felt soft so it shouldn't wear my knives down quick. The price also wasn't bad for it being a Walnut board. Used it once so far and noticed a few things.Pros:- Aesthetically pleasing (rich color and grain)- Lightw…eight- Soft enough not to damage knives- Good size for small items (berries, cherry tomatoes, etc)Cons:- Bit smaller than I expected (also I believe it's about .75 inches thick)- Knife marks already showing (though edge grain is more prone to do this, just wasn't expecting to see them after one use)Big Con:- Mine had grain pieces lifting/splintering after initial use & mild wash, not surprising with edge grain, but it was really bad. So bad that I had to refinish and reseason the entire board, I'm lucky I had spare extra fine and fine grain sandpaper laying around along with John Boos care products. It also got really dry after that wash, and I didn't use very hot water or a lot of soap (just a drop or two) since I had only cut up some garlic cloves and bacon pieces. The rich dark chocolate color turned to this very pale and dull shade of brown. Despite all this, I'm still keeping the board to see how it performs in the future after finishing and seasoning it.However, if you're someone who doesn't know any better about woodworking/being handy, I could see why you'd return it. That being said, I still wasn't too happy about sitting down at the table and sanding my board for an hour while occasionally rinsing and checking for more lifting. I'm still in the process of seasoning, as I've had to oil it a few more times to make sure it's completely moisturized, just waiting for the beeswax to settle in.It's my first Walnut as well as edge grain board. My other boards are end grain Teak, about 1.5 - 2 inches thick. No splinters or marks after heavy use. Either way, please remember to season your boards once in a while!
